Information about local clubs and organisations can now be found on the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) website:  www.cab.org.nz


  • To search by Hawke's Bay only, click on the blue Change button, then North Island, the Region - Hawke's Bay. 
  • To search on Hastings and/or Napier, continue on to District/City and tick selections.
  • Save Selections, type in your search terms, then click on Search.


Please contact the Hastings CAB if you wish to add or change an entry on the CAB website.

Justices of the Peace - JPs

Please note JPs will not be available at the libraries over the holiday period. They will return to Hastings Library on Tuesday Jan 13.

Do you need help from a Justice of the Peace?  Local JPs are available in Hastings Library, Havelock North Library and Hastings Courthouse at the following times:

Hastings Library –  Tuesday afternoons, 2pm - 4pm (as part of the Information Marketplace).

The Hastings District Libraries will be centres for lifelong learning and recreation.  Each library will be a focal point for its own community.


To enrich the life of the community by providing a library service that meets people's informational, recreational and cultural needs. 

Volunteering Hawke's Bay

Are you keen to Volunteer?  Bronwyn, Volunteering Hawkes Bay’s Community Liaison Coordinator, is in Hastings Library on Tuesdays between 2 and 4pm to chat about volunteering.  On the first Tuesday of the month Bronwyn will be in Flaxmere Library from 11am to 1pm.

Volunteering Hawkes Bay refers individuals to voluntary positions that provide the volunteer opportunities to gain work experience, gain new skills and ideas, improve language skills, meet new people and offer a chance to make a difference in the community.  We offer over 140 volunteering opportunities with 75 organisations in HB in the areas of the environment, youth and elderly, health, special needs, education, animals, practical help, administration, governance, IT, retail, sport, mentoring, events, op shops, street collecting and one off events.

Contact us on 833 6691, email admin@volunteeringhb.org.nz or call into the Hastings Library on Tuesday between 2-4pm.  Also available in Flaxmere Library on the first Tuesday of each month between 11am-1pm.

Community Noticeboards

All three libraries have noticeboards for community notices and posters.

To display these, please ask at the desk for the Community Librarian.

You may also post notices and posters to:

The Community Liaison and Promotions Co-ordinator, Private Bag 9002, Hastings 4156.  Please send three copies if you would like these displayed in all three libraries.

Our noticeboards are not used for:

  • Commercial advertisements
  • Private advertisements, e.g. flatmate wanted
  • Party political material
  • Religious material, apart from event notices or services to the community


Petitions may be made available for the public to sign, in all three libraries.

These must be approved by Paula MurdochDistrict Libraries Manager.

Petition organisers are responsible for the maintenance and collation of pages.
