Teen Book Club - Havelock North

We have a new Teen book club meeting in Havelock North Library.

Our Teen Book Club is being held at Havelock North Library on the first Tuesday of the month at 3.45pm.  

Ages 12 plus are welcome.

Meets in the library - we have snacks, share books reviews, book quiz, book hunts, see the new books and make new friends.

Our Teen Book Club is being held at Hastings Library every third Tuesday at 4pm.

Meets in the Sir James Wattie Memorial Room upstairs.   Snacks and drinks are provided!

Young Adult Collections

All three libraries have Young Adult Collections and elsewhere in the library are CDs, DVDs, videos and of course, books that teens are welcome to borrow. Online Databases are also available for homework research  at home or in the libraries - no charge.

From homework help, through secondary school and tertiary level, to adult general interest, to health topics, law, funding, scholarships, our databases provide access to a huge range of online resources, on just about every topic

From home you can information and have fun while learning.

Hastings District Libraries subscribe to a wide range of databases, greatly extending our collections.

Most are available to use from home - use your library card number for login ID.

Careers New Zealand

Careers New Zealand is a government department providing independent career information, advice and guidance at every stage of a person's life.

In the Library

There is no charge to use the Career Services website in the Hastings District Libraries, including creating a CV online using CV 4 Me through the website, however we do apply our normal charges when using word processors or email.

Looking for scholarships, awards or grants?

Breakout is a searchable funding database from the Funding Information Service (FIS),  updated frequently.

Information includes:

  • Closing dates
  • Application requirements
  • Contact details
  • A calendar of application closing dates
  • An alphabetical list of awards and scholarships
  • Guidelines for applying for funding
  • A list of success stories to inspire

Breakout is available to use in Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere Libraries (no charge to access but usual charges apply for printing) or you can access it from our website using your library card number and PIN.

Summer Reading Programmes - readX

readX Summer Reading Programme

The ever popular E.C.READ’N readX (formerly ReadPlus) Summer Reading Programme returns this summer to Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere Libraries.

readX is a free, incentive based reading programme for students who were in Years 9 -13 in 2014.
