Meet New Children's Author, Nicola Kenny

Nicola Kenny knows what's what in the world of digital technology. She taught the subject at high school for twenty years. She’s also one of the founders of Digital Circus which runs workshops to inspire teachers about all things digital. Now she has turned her creativity and technology expertise into a series of books for children.

The main character through the series is Thresher, the 3D printer. Thresher’s a friendly little chap who likes to lend a hand. Whenever he sees a problem, Thresher likes to fix it. But when he comes across someone who needs help, first he has to listen to the problem before putting his creative brain to work to find a solution.

The first book in the series is Harold’s Tale. Poor Harold is a tortoise with a broken shell, a very upsetting situation as any tortoise will tell you. Thank goodness, he comes across Thresher, who soon devises a plan. Sometimes what seems like a big problem can be overcome with innovative thinking and kindness.

The story of Harold was inspired by the true story of Freddie, a tortoise who was badly burned in a forest fire. Fortunately, Freddie was rescued and a new shell created using a 3D computer program.
