Book Review: Two Sides to Every Murder - and other scary stuff

I may have been on a little bit of a binge when it comes to horror movies - but not the really scary ones. No dolls or dummies or anything like that for me, thank you! Oh, and NO. CLOWNS. (Speaking of, Clown in a Cornfield was one of the worst books I ever read, I can't believe it has two sequels!).

Anyway, back to my point. I may have grown up in the 90's, and watched Scary Movie and its sequel, but I never watched the original Scream movies. I know, terrible. But, I'm catching up now. It's been funny watching them, and then being like, oooohhhhh, now I understand Scary Movie more! It's still terrible, by the way, but it makes so much more sense.

There are a lot of books in YA (young adult/teen) that are horror themed, and a bunch that are your standard, bad guy kills people off one by one. I really enjoyed Two Sides To Every Murder by Danielle Valentine. It gave me a vibe of Scream - two girls make their way to an old camp, a camp which was the site of a number of grisly murders years ago. One girl has a very special link to the camp - she was born there, that night, when her mother went into early labor because of the trauma. The other? Her mother is believed to be the murderer.

Between the two girls, they have to scramble to figure out the truth of what happened that night - Reagan, so she can clear her mother's name, and Olivia, to get her parents to explain why her father is not biologically related to her. But, as in every good horror, the bodies begin to fall. The Witch of Camp Lost Lake returns, and the two girls (with the help of their best friends) must work together to stop the killer, before their answers are lost forever.

Overall, I thought this was a good book. It loses some points for the very ending. I think it could have been left without the last few pages, they just didn't seem necessary. So, 3.5/5 stars.
