If you visit our Māori collection spaces at the Hastings Library, you may notice something new. In the last few months we have purchased a small selection of Māori kēmu, (games) that support the use of te reo Māori. The best part is these can be borrowed and taken home!
Use this catalogue link to locate our Māori kēmu.
Use this catalogue link to locate te Ao Māori or Te Reo Māori kēmu in our children’s games collections across the district.
We’ve had so much fun playing Kaupapa at the libraries that we want to tell you all about it. The creators Rosie and Kuruho of the creative group Kura Rēhia say of their company, “we create board games, resources and events for a bilingual Aotearoa. The aim is for Aotearoa to experience te reo Māori as central to how we have fun together as whānau and friends.”
We at the libraries are on board! We’ll have the kēmu available at both of our Karawhiua with kēmu! events at Hastings Library:
Both good times for whānau and individuals aged 3-103 to visit and play some games!
Did you know, you can complete a Karawhiua challenge by joining us! Ka tākaro tātou! Join one of our kēmu board games sessions at the libraries and complete a challenge or two for Karawhiua!
Once you have completed any challenge, report-in with a library staff member or via the Karawhiua page on our website [insert Karawhiua banner again with link to webpage] Prizes are awarded each week for participation and completing challenges, and a grand prize will be drawn at the end of the month.
If you know your library card PIN or password, you can place a hold straight away on any of these titles and we can place it aside for you to pick up at a library branch of your choosing, for the small cost of $2; game night at your whare sorted!
