Not sure where to start when it comes to using your computer or iPad? Need some help navigating around the internet or your email?

Register your interest in attending a free tutorial class at Hastings, Flaxmere or Havelock North Libraries and you will be contacted regarding available dates and times.

Computer Access & Policies

Hastings District Libraries provide access to email, the internet, word processing and online databases at all three libraries.  Some services are free, some are chargeable.

Printing in black & white and colour, and scanning is available.


All three libraries have EFTPOS facilities at the Issues desks.

Hastings and Havelock North Libraries have EFTPOS at the Self Check Machines (for charges under $10).


A public fax service is available in all three libraries. 


Sending - Local and 0800: $1.00 per page
Sending - National: $2.00 per page
Sending - International: $3.00 per page

Receiving - $1.00 per page

Microfilm and Microfiche Readers

The library has three microfilm readers with the ability to save scanned images to a memory stick. These are available upstairs in the Genealogy section of Hastings Library.

Library staff are available to assist. 

Mobile Phones

Not sure how to use your mobile phone? Book in for a FREE mobile phone lesson at one of our libraries!

Sessions are under a half hour each, so covering all topics may take more than one session, depending on your needs.

Ask at the desk about these sessions - we have staff who can show you how to use your mobile.


All three libraries have photocopiers for public use.

  • A4 black and white - .20c per side
  • A3 black and white - .40c per side
  • A4 colour - $1.00 per side
  • A3 colour - $2.00 per side


Self Check Machines

Self Check Machines are available at Hastings and Havelock North Libraries.

These may be used for issuing all non-rental items.

Unwanted mobile phones support Starship Hospital.

Auckland’s Starship children’s hospital is to benefit from the collection of unwanted mobile phones in Hastings.

The phones are being collected at the Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere Libraries and will be refurbished and then onsold, with a percentage of the proceeds going to Starship Hospital to fund care for sick children. 

Wifi at HCL Hotspot

Wireless internet is available at Hastings Library, using our HCL Hotspot.

Access is free and run through timecode tickets available at the desk. Access is strictly one hour per person, per day.
