Here are some services and portals that you can utilise to help you within the Hastings District.
Information about local clubs and organisations can be found on the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) website.
Do you need help from a Justice of the Peace? Local JPs are currently available at:
Havelock North Library on Saturdays 10am - 12pm
Flaxmere Library on Tuesdays 10am - 12pm
Hastings Library on Tuesdays 2 - 4pm
Hastings Library on Thursdays 2 - 4pm
Please note: Flaxmere JP Tuesday time is subject to availability. If no JP is avail in Flaxmere on that day, please refer to a Justice of the Peace or Registrar or Deputy Registrar of the District Court. Library staff are not permitted to witness documents.
If you are in urgent need of a JP, go to justiceofthepeace.org.nz and search by Hastings, Havelock North or Napier to find any other available local JPs.
Having a JP helping you is entirely free of charge. Justices are statutory appointees who receive no payment for their services to the community. If you are not sure whether a JP can help you, just ask. This service is provided by the New Zealand Justices' Association.
All three libraries have noticeboards and display areas for community notices, posters and static displays.
To display these, please ask in person at the desk of each library, or contact us on libraries@hdc.govt.nz .
Our noticeboards and display areas are not used for:
Please note that petitions will not be accepted by, or displayed in, the Hastings District Libraries.
Hastings District Libraries strive to remain neutral spaces for all community members. Allowing petitions can create a perception of bias or endorsement of particular causes or political movements and sometimes lead to unsolicited approaches or confrontation.
This decision helps maintain the library as an inclusive and neutral space for all users.
