Available at all three libraries (Flaxmere, Hastings and Havelock North), our facilitated visits are designed to be engaging and informative, lasting approximately one hour. We tailor each school visit to meet your group’s needs and learning goals.
To give our team adequate time to plan, please book at least two weeks before your visit.
Alternatively, we can offer a comprehensive overview of our resources or explore topics at your request.
Te Wā Pakiwaitara Storytime (ideal for ECEs) Together we will read two or three stories and have some free time. We can read stories for entertainment or to suit a theme.
Colouring in Colouring in sheets and supplies while enjoying free time.
Dewey Decimal BINGO In this session, students can get to understand how our Non-Fiction sections work while having fun with Dewey Decimal BINGO.
Library BINGO Groups compete in a challenge to get ‘BINGO’ by finding and collecting books that match the prompts on the card. This challenge is adaptable for different age groups.
Picture Hunt Children work in groups to explore the library by finding where the objects in the pictures are.
Scavenger Hunt An advanced (but fun) scavenger hunt. Students work in groups to answer the questions by finding the right place in the library. A great way to get to know our collection and feel comfortable using the library.
Book Sorting Find out where to find a picture book, a graphic novel, chapter book and non-fiction book in this session of book sorting.
STEM Activities Enjoy our collection of STEM resources including LEGO®, Connetix, Sphero, Makey Makey and more!
Free Time Session Use the space at any of our libraries to explore all our resources or enjoy some quiet reading time. Choose whether you’d like a librarian to support your session.
If you have something specific in mind, please let us know when filling out the booking form below. We are happy to adapt your visit to suit your needs.

Hastings War Memorial Library has been classified as an earthquake-prone building following a Detailed Seismic Assessment (DSA). The building’s rating indicates uncertainty as to how the building would respond in a major earthquake. It is not at risk of failure in smaller earthquakes. The library will remain open to the public while plans are developed to address the issue. Click here for more information.
