Programmes

HDL winter break website image 300x200Hastings District Libraries hold a wide range of programmes throughout the year, involving both children and adults.

We're heading into Winter now, so are about to run the Wonderfully Awesome and Totally Unboring Winter Break during the July school holidays!

There's plenty happening across our three libraries to keep the kids entertained, so click on a library below to see what's happening.

As well as our exciting events and activities for teens and kids, we run the 'Turn Up the Heat' reading challenge for adults during the colder months. There are fun challenges and even some prizes up for grabs to reignite a grown-up's love of reading.

Unplugged Gaming

Monday 19th July

Drop in at your leisure, pick something from our great board games selection and play your friends and family during our drop in session. Suitable 5+.

PreSchool Storytime

Wednesday 11th July 
10:30 - 11:15am
Join us for our weekly dose of stories, songs and crafts. Suitable for all ages.

Zine Workshop

Wednesday 11th July 
1.30 - 2.30pm
Come and great creative and make your own zine! Zines are hand-made, self-published works on paper. All materials are provided, we just need your creativity and ideas. Suitable 7+.

Mad Libs

Thursday 12th July 
2:30 - 3:30pm
If you have a way with silly words, this is the session for you! Join us to create literary masterpieces. Suitable 8+

S.T.E.A.M Family Event

Friday 13th July

Marble Run

Tuesday 17th July

How creative can you be? Create marble runs out of cardboard boxes and a whole lot of recycled materials. Suitable 5+.

Creature Combo Workshop

NERF Wars at the Library

6.00 - 7.00pm
Bring your Nerf guns and your bullets and compete in the library battleground. Ages 8-12. REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Movie Wind Down

Friday 20th July 
12.00 - 3.30pm
Had a busy holidays? Finish it off with a movie or two at the library. Suitable for all ages.

Craft Buffet

Thursday 12th July 
10.00 - 11.30am
Come play with the library’s craft supplies! What projects can you dream up? Suitable for all ages.

Monster Madness

Friday 13th July 
10:00 – 11:30am
Come create your own monster out of craft supplies and celebrate the spookiness of Friday the 13th! Suitable for all ages.

Books to Screens

Monday 16th July 
1.00 - 2.30pm
Join us for a family friendly movie adaptation of a famous children’s book. Ask in the library for more details. Suitable for 5+.

Paper Planes

Thursday 19th July 
10:00 – 11:30am
Come learn different ways to make Paper Planes, and  before the event ends we will find out whose plane flies the furthest. Suitable 7+.

Ear Science

Papercraft: Origami

Come along and learn to fold like a master. Let's see what you can make. Suitable for ages 10-12.

Tournament: MINECRAFT!

Monday 16th July 
3.30 - 5.00pm
Come along with your own tablet or iPad and compete against others in PVP events or complete building challenges.  Suitable for 5+.

Clan of Coders @ Havelock North

Thursday 19th July 
3.00 - 4.30pm
Try out some coding challenges, play with some robotics and have a go on the Raspberry Pi. Suitable for ages 7+.  REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

The Imagination Playground comes to Havelock North Library

Giant foam block-play, that transforms children’s minds, bodies, and spirits through active, creative play. Suitable for all ages.
