Creative Writing Programme 2020

Jo in chair cropped 002Welcome to Hastings District Libraries Creative Writing Programme

Join us through the year on a creative writing journey, mentored by writing instructor Jo Morris, to develop your unique literary voice.

Jo will present a series of themed writing workshops, helping you learn to write in a vivid and engaging style that connects with readers.

Learn to write the story behind why you are bequeathing your loved possessions to family, whanau and friends. Theses skills will enable you to create a memory memorabilia book that includes photographs and stories of why these items are precious or meaningful to you, where it came from and perhaps why it is being gifted to a specific person.

One workshop series consisting of 3 x 2 hour sessions

Learn the art of telling the story and experiences of your life.
During these workshops, you’ll focus on a few important people and events from your life. You’ll learn to write about these in a vivid, engaging way, so your family, whanau and friends can enjoy them.

Two workshop series consisting of 3 x 2 hour sessions

June 29th, July 6th, and 13th

or  August 3rd, 10th and 17th

These session are for writers moving on from the introduction class. Writers will learn how to developing aspects of the introductory sessions with more in-depth writing about events, people, and objects.

Two advanced workshop series consisting of 3 x 2 hour sessions

August 28th, September 4th and 11th

$30 per person for the series

 

Write your Christmas story as a gift to your whanau. Aimed at older adults this session will guide writers in telling their stories of Christmas past. How this holiday was celebrated when they were a child, young person or younger adult – special family memories or changes in society that impacted along the way.
