What is Skinny Jump?

Skinny Jump is an initiative for those who don't have a broadband connection at home because cost is a barrier. It is flexible, pre-paid ($5 = 35GB) and you can top-up six times every month. You can get up to a maximum of 210GB every month (and it will only cost you $30) with an additional 15gb on the 1st of every month free. Because it is wireless broadband technology it also means that no phone line is required.

Skinny Jump is specifically to support those most at risk of digital exclusion. If you don't already have broadband access and one or more of the following sounds like you, then you are probably eligible:

  • Families with children in low socio-economic communities
  • Job seekers
  • Seniors
  • People with disabilities
  • Refugees and migrant communities
  • Those in social housing
  • Māori & Pasifika youth
  • Offenders and ex-offenders

How do I get started with Skinny Jump at Hastings District Libraries?

Once you have checked your eligibility above and your address via the address checker, pop into the library to see if a modem is available. Please note there is high demand and modems may not be immediately available.

Please note:

  • Getting set up with take approximately 10-30 minutes
  • You will need a current email address and the password to access it
  • If you have had a Skinny Jump modem before, you must have returned it and contacted Skinny (0800 4 SKINNY) to ensure it has been delinked

What happens if I have a faulty modem?

If your modem becomes faulty you need to contact the Skinny Care team on 0800 4 SKINNY and let them know.

If the Skinny Care team are not able to fix the modem remotely they will delink your modem and organise a return courier bag.

When you move on from Skinny Jump you can return your old modem to the library where it will be set up for another family who may need a Skinny Jump connection.
