At the End of the Day by Liz Byrski
Mim Squires and Mathias Vander meet when they are stranded at an airport, finding they have much in common. Both work in the field of books and are at a turning point in their lives. A warm and wise novel about new beginnings, secrets from the past and the wisdom required to embrace change at any age.

Blood on Vines Madeleine Eskedahl
Debut New Zealand author has set this thriller among the vineyards, first in Martinborough then up north in Matakana. Summer is over, the tourists have left a raft of carefully planned attacks shocks the neighbourhood just as the grape are about to be harvested. A pacey read with loads of atmosphere.

Songbirds by Christy Lefteri
A stunning book set on Cyprus. Poacher, Yiannis, captures songbirds to sell illegally as a delicacy, dreaming of a better life with Nisha, a Sri Lankan nanny. When Nisha disappears he fears he’s driven her away – or has he? The police aren’t concerned – she’s probably just gone home, or has something else happened to her? This book is doing the rounds at Book Chat as it so well recommended.

Hot to Trot by M C Beaton
Agatha Raisin is back with a new mystery full of glamour via a high-society wedding, a masked ball and intrigue surrounding the world of show-jumping. When Sir Charles Fraith is accused of murder, Agatha is named as his accomplice. There’s plenty of fun and skulduggery in this the last of the series, clocking in at number 31!

The Icecutter’s Daughter by Tracie Peterson
Set in Minnesota in the late 1800s and the world of ice harvesting. Here Merrill Krause is part of her family business, working with her father and brothers as they cut and harvest ice. When Rurik Jorgensen arrives in their small town, he turns Merrill’s head, but a scandal threatens to destroy their future. A beautiful story about trust with a religious feel.

The Dressmaker of Paris by G Kaufmann
Fashion entrepreneur, Rosa Kusstatscher is unusually perplexed as she chooses an outfit for the most important meeting of her life. As she ponders her choices, she recalls her life as a young girl under Nazi occupation in Italy, her escape and the somewhat nomadic life she has made for herself. It occurs to her she has done a lot of running away. A terrific, engaging read.

Palace of the Drowned by Christine Mangan
In 1966, Frances retreats to Venice after an incident at the Savoy, and attempts to get over writer’s block in an ageing palazzo. Then Gilly appears, claiming a connection from home but there’s something oddly disconcerting about her eagerness to be friends. More worrying is Gilly’s tendency to tell lies. Frances is in turmoil, while the worst floods in history threaten the city. A complex and intriguing read.

Silver Tears by Camilla Lackberg
In the second Faye Adelhiem novel, our main character is living a charmed life secretly in Italy, her monster of an ex-husband safely behind bars for the murder of both Faye’s daughter and her mother. But Faye has a secret: both victims are still alive. A slightly raunchy novel build around a moral dilemma. While this is fine as a stand-alone novel, Lackberg fans might want to read The Gilded Cage first.
