On a cold morning in May we enjoyed hot drinks and cheese scones while we shared the books we enjoyed when we were younger.
We started with a short reading from Fern Britton’s Daughters of Cornwall. Spread over three generations from 1914 to today, the story weaves through the lives of three women from Cornwall. Well-written and a good read was the verdict.
The books we read in the last month included Agatha Christie once again. This time it was her short story collection Murder in Paradise which features cases solved by Hercules Poirot. Our reader enjoyed these very much.
Losing my Virginity, the autobiography of Virgin Airlines founder Richard Branson was a very interesting read. Our reader would love to read what has happened after the book finishes - somewhere in the 1990s.
Another autobiography, this time from actor Sam Neill. Did I Ever Tell You This? has been read by three of our readers and all found it very entertaining with its insights into the world of movie-making.
Irish rugby union payer Tony O”Reilly’s biography The Player by Ivan Fallon was a good read and our reader had a special connection as he had once played rugby against Tony O’Reilly.
We finished off with some good fiction reads. Catherine Robertson’s Gabriel’s Bay really hit the spot and our reader was excited to find out it was the first in a trilogy. A whodunnit was next with Sandra Brown’s Out of Nowhere. Our last reader has started the Stephanie Plum bounty hunter series by Janet Evanovich. He was enjoying it so much, he could not wait to get home to finish the last 30 minutes.
