Book Review: Doomsday Clock by Geoff Johns

Doomsday Clock

Here's a look at the Doomsday Clock Parts 1 and 2, two hardback graphic novels that continue where The Watchmen left off.

The world of The Watchmen now seems a long time ago. This is a follow up to that series, set seven years after those events.

Adrian Veidt (Ozymandias) has been exposed as a criminal and mass murderer. Now a fugitive, he has a plan, but he needs to find Dr. Manhattan. Alongside a new Rorschach, he arrives in the DC Universe. Neither world is in good shape, but what has Dr. Manhattan got to do with it?Paranoia spreads about The Supermen Theory implicating the U.S. government in creating superhumans to maintain global dominance. War looms. The clock moves closer to midnight.

In order to make this a success, quite a bit of research has been done and there are many references to previous incidents in the DC world which should appeal to the diehard fans. Gary frank does a great job with the art and the graphic novel has all the covers of the series and some extras.

I come at this as someone who rather enjoyed the gritty, less comic book world of The Watchmen but I’m not really a DC fan. All the stories within stories and referencing to incidences in the DC world didn’t do a lot for me. Always a good time to reread The Watchmen and then to try these and see what you think. Enjoy.
