'Are you happy in your life?'
Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious. Before he awakes to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits. Before the man he's never met smiles down at him and says, 'Welcome back.'
So recently I was in hospital for a planned operation. Knowing I wouldn’t have the concentration or possibly the physical strength required for a physical book, I chose to download an e-audiobook from Libby. (Libby is the Overdrive App that allows you to download ebooks directly to your phone or tablet.) Libby tells you how many hours it will take to read it to you. I usually get put off by the amount of hours it states but reading is probably much the same. I also knew I would have quite a bit of time in recovery.
The narrator of Dark Matter is Jon Lindstrom. The story presents itself as a thriller but has a large SciFi quota. It’s also one of those books where you don’t really know how it’s going to end. The story is set in today's world. It involves parallel worlds and the road not taken. There's the Jason Dessen the physics professor, then there's Jason Dessen the scientific genius who has achieved the impossible. But which of these lives is the real one? It's a suspenseful story that will grip you till the last page.
So while I was recovering in the suite I was playing this through my phone. I was very glad I had something to do as the nurses are checking on you continuously for the first 24 hours. I see how how people really get into these. Most of us are attached 24/7 to our phones so it's a piece of cake to pick another e-audiobook to listen to while sitting out in the sun enjoying the garden.
