For our first meeting of 2024, we enjoyed a scones and muffins and chatted about the books we had been reading over the holidays.
Robert Galbraith’s Cormoran Strike private detective series was a big hit. Our reader recommends starting at the beginning with The Cuckoo’s Calling and working your way through seven books so far in the series. This is one of several books that has been adapted from television.
Remember Me by Lesley Pearse (not to be confused with Charity Norman’s excellent book with the same name) is an historical novel following the live of a young Cornish girl transported to Australia.
Having finished the Jack Reacher series our Lee Child reader is now working his way through Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt series and really enjoying them.
Two non fiction titles that were enjoyed were Jay Blades autobiography Making it, how love, kindness and community helped me repair my life. Blades is best known as host of the television series The Repair Shop. The other autobiography was our very own Topp Girls Untouchable Girls which was another good read.
Newly discovered author Colleen Hoover was the highlight for one of our readers and she thoroughly recommends It ends with us.
Our last book has also been adapted for television - The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian. Our reader has only just started this book so wait to see if this is a recommendation
As usual we listened to a short reading. Today’s reading was from Playing God by Glenn Colquhoun a New Zealand poet/doctor. We laughed out loud at the poem She asked me if she took one pill…
