At a glance there is the usual mix of literary heavyweights and lesser-known authors. Former Booker winner Kazuo Ishiguro makes the longlist, which isn't surprising for his story about an Artificial Friend and which has been on the bestseller charts for a while. There's the new book by Francis Spufford who garnered a lot of interest with his book Golden Hill a few years ago, winning the Costa for a first novel. Then there's Bewilderment by Richard Powers, who bewildered and dazzled us with The Overstory, his 2019 Pullitzer Prize winner. We're promised a fine read with Damon Galgut's new book, The Promise. This author's been shortlisted before twice, so maybe this will be his year.
Anyone wanting to read a bit 'smarter' might like to make a note of the following books. But please be aware, some of these titles are very new and may not yet be available in the library. You can always suggest a purchase for those you want to read that we have yet to add to the collection. Have a chat to the helpful staff on your next visit to the library.
